Going Bananas

I must say there is never a dull moment in the delirium unit at the hospital. First we had a patient who was usually drowsy but suddenly came to today and was a potty mouth cause we’d ask him to move his leg to put on the footstool. Next we have 2 pleasantly confused ladies walking around and wanting to go home, which presents a huge falls risk to us as we have to watch where they are while we’re busy doing our things as well.

Then we have another patient throwing cups of water at her room mate, attempting to throw a jug of water but was stopped. Next she threw fruit at everyone. While we were swapping chairs, she tried to reach into the HSA’s bag but was stopped, and next she tried to reach into the dustbin and that was when we made our way out of her room ASAP. I think I was partially amused but also I was a bit panicky cause we were quite near her and we were carrying a heavy chair. My supervisor got me to hurry along and got out of there.

Next we had a lady do a kitchen assessment with us and she was progressing along until we brought her back to the unit and that was when she went ballistic and wanted to go back home. At this point, I was actually holding her hand and she got a bit anxious and my supervisor got me to let go of her and get out of there. I think we spent a good amount of time trying to avoid her and get out of there before she dragged us by our hands and demanded that we let her out.

I’m tired from running away from the patients today, I’ve got more documents to type up and things to read before I go to bed. That’s all from me today!

Not The Day For Driving

Today most certainly was not the day for driving around. Well, petrol is cheaper but that does not mean I can afford to drive everywhere. And my parking leaves a lot to be desired so I decided to take a risk and hitch a ride with Nic to Phi Yen and he decided to be super hero and cut across 3 lanes on Stirling Highway to get to a turning. I tell you my heart nearly stopped and I was screaming when he did that with no warning. Clearly Nic, my nagging on the way there didn’t work now did it? :P

Then on the way back, I was driving out and I made sure I looked at the pedestrian crossing before I did anything. I even took my foot off the accelerator and hovered it above the brake just in case. Then just as I was halfway across the crossing, this girl just runs out from my right and I had to jam brake. And even then, she stopped just in time as well and she was literally inches from the front of my car. I was probably more ticked off than scared at the point of time. Here I was taking extra precautions and then this reckless girl just runs across. The people around us were looking and were shocked she had just literally sprinted across it. I mean come on, if you were walking and I was not halfway across the thing I would have stopped for you. But nooooooo, just run and don’t look where you are going.

Clearly karma just came to bite me back on the bum for nagging at Nic today. And I quote Nic: “You are like the mum I already have” in terms of nagging. How nice to know that when I eventually have kids, they’ll have to hear me nagging them about their driving when I nearly hit pedestrians 2 weeks in a row.

Conversation Part 2

More conversation from the weekend.

Aunty: Kristine, church has so many guys but you haven’t found a boyfriend yet.

Me: Err….They’re all either not available, not suitable or not interested. (o.0!!!)

So Sunday seemed like an interrogation session just cause I went out Saturday night to watch a movie. Haha….Interesting. Though I won’t mention where I went…Hahaha….Too many things flying around already at this moment :)

Conversation of the Week

Me: Fuzzy & Trish got engaged on Friday, 080808. Such a nice number.

Jasmine: Yea, should have been you who should have gotten engaged. You’re older than them.

Uncle: There is always the 090909. Good number.

Jasmine: Yea!!! Kristine, you have to get engaged next year!

Me: 0.o!!

Now don’t go getting any ideas. I’m still single and unattached. I’m perfectly fine where I am with life and I’m satisfied with things. Though, I must admit it was a funny and alarming conversation.

That was probably one of the things that made me laugh this week. I’ve been rather stressed lately and short on time to do things. I think I need to just take some ‘me’ time and chill out once in a while. Movie night on Saturday was a good thing and very timely too. We watched Atonement on Saturday. With 3D surround sound (the real thing, not the one on my laptop), it was amazing. Admittedly I screamed like a baby when it came to the seen when the Briony went looking for the twins in the dark, the music had this thing going on and watching it in the dark made everything even more scary. I’m looking forward to movie night again this week. This time its Pride and Prejudice. I’m looking forward to curling under the blanket and watching that and bawling my eyes out.

Speaking of which, I should get back to finishing my project for work tomorrow before I lose track of time again.

Juice Machine

Today is one of those days whereby I am not about to get the things that I want. I was thirsty today and wanted to buy the $2 orange juice from the juice machine round the Day Hospital reception area so I brought some coin with me. I counted out 2 50 cent coins, 3 20 cent coins and 1 10 cent coins. Well obviously I forgot that 3 times 20 cents plus 10 cents is only 70 cents. So I felt like an idiot standing at the machine, feeding it money and pressing the number for the orange juice but none is coming out. I looked at the credit in the machine and obvious I didn’t have enough.

So fine, I went back to my bag to get me my $5 note so I could buy something. At this point I could practically taste the orange juice pulp in my mouth. As I tried to slip my note in the slot, it didn’t work. I tried again. Same result.

I looked at the slot again, the light wasn’t blinking, so obviously it wasn’t going to accept my money.

I felt like a rightful idiot after that.

I went back to put my money back in my bag and gave up on getting orange juice. Obviously I wasn’t meant to have any today.

So I came back home, cut up half an avocado and ate that. I also ate Baskin Robbins’ peanut butter and chocolate ice cream. Straight from the tub.

It is one of those days.

Guilt Tripping

Does not usually work with me. Especially when you whine.

Though I’d make the exception if you were a nice guy and asking me nicely :P

Breaking Dawn

For those who do not know about the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, it is a 4 book series (so far) that tells the tale about Isabella Swan who falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. It sounds like your average teeny booper love story, but the way Stephenie spins the tale, you can’t help but be drawn into it, imagining the things spinning around in Bella’s head, reasons behind Edward’s actions and the irresistible feel of the love between those two.

The latest book in the series, Breaking Dawn, was released yesterday in Australia. I got my copy nice and early, so that I could sit at the court (another story in itself) and immerse myself in the much anticipated book. I started reading at about 9 am and didn’t finish till 11.30 pm. Throw in the lunch eating, the toilet breaks, dinner eating, showering, shopping and hair cutting, I managed to finish the 700+ page book in less tan 24 hours.

As I walked around the city, there were many people (all girls, strangely enough) that had their hands on the book and were walking and reading at the same time. It was amazing to see.

Anyway, with the court case, I was mildly amused that they took an early plea and saved me the trouble of having to testify but they could have at least let me know beforehand so that I wouldn’t have had to go. But then again, I’m happy that I went, I spoke to the prosecutor and I managed to get 2 hours worth of reading down while waiting :)

I’m posting spoilers here, so please be warned!

***SPOILER ALERT***

**DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED**

*YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*

1. Bella is pregnant. This was probably the most shocking bit to me. I didn’t quite expect her to be pregnant with a vampire hybrid and most certainly did not expect her to carry it through. With the graphic explanation of her ribs breaking, I can only imagine how painful that must be. I’ve been hit in the ribs hard before, but have never broken them. Even then, it was horrendously painful and for Bella to be put through that pain and growing at such an accelerated rate, it was amazing.

2. Jacob imprints on Renesemee. This I sort of expected, since Jacob and Bella are so intertwined with each other sometimes I feel sorry for Edward who has to put up with Bella’s feelings for Jacob. The funniest part of this whole thing was when Bella found out that Jacob had imprinted on Nessie. I couldn’t help but laugh that one day, Bella and Edward would have Jacob as a son-in-law. And when Bella realises that, and attacks Jacob it was quite comical.

3. Bella turns into a vampire. The will power she had to not scream out loud when she was turning is amazing. But for Bella to have such strong will power and control to not kill a human, it was not something I’d anticipated.

4. Bella’s shielding power. I knew that she would have a power but I didn’t know that it had already taken form in her even before she became a vampire. The fact that she could shield all their witnesses against the Volturi, and prevent the slaughter of their innocent witnesses is truly well laid out. I’d say the nicest part about being able to control her power is that she could lift her shield from herself and allow Edward to listen to her thoughts were so romantic.

I guess the part that I found rather odd was that Bella is married to Edward and they are now husband and wife. I never referred to them as boyfriend and girlfriend before but to read that they refer to each other as husband and wife is thrilling somehow.

I guess I was quite careful to not imagine specifics so that I would not be dissapointed with the ending of the book.. I don’t like putting numerical values to the quality of the book, but this book satisfied the craving I had to know the ending. It was a well written book, with emotions poured out into it so well that you can almost imagine yourself with Bella and watching every step that they take. Possibly the best book I’ve read.
