Back from Hiatus/Christmas Holidays Part 1 - Busselton/Dunsborough
Yes, I am BACK from my hiatus!! Yes, I’m back at my place now. It feels good to be back, though I’m going to miss the 10 minute drive to work. Now I’ve got to get up earlier and get to work on time. I’ve got a 6.30am start next week, which means I’m going to have to leave home at about 6.10am latest. Which means a 5.30am wake up for me. I’m going to be so exhausted from that.

Anyway, enough complaining about wake up times. More time to write what I’m supposed to write, which is well as the title says, part one of the Christmas holidays. My family arrive from Malaysia on the 18th of December, and I can honestly tell you that date was probably one of the most important dates by far. I hadn’t seen them in nearly 2 years, so I guess I was just anticipating their arrival for month. Literally. The tickets were booked sometime in March last year, and they arrive in December. I could not help but be restless the night before since I worked for a few days prior to that.
I guess this story is a little disjointed as in true Kristine style, there was a slight drama the day before they arrived. See, the stingy person I am, I waited till the last minute to put petrol in my car cause the prices were dropping day by day. So I had paid for my petrol and came back to my car to drive home. I put the key in the ignition and it would not budge.
The first thought in my head was, “Oh shit, the battery is dead”. Then after trying a few times to start my car to no avail, I went in to the petrol station to see if the attendant could help me. After bracing myself to sound like an idiot, I told him of the situation and he said it might be the immobiliser. He told me I’d better call RAC or the likes. So off it was to call RAC (Am I glad that my car is still under warranty) and get them to come to me. Then I got the lady on the phone and when I told her my car make and model, she told me it was not registered under my name. I was ready to strangle her, but I calmly explained I had bought the car in March and possibly the records do not reflect that. Cause I could even give her my registration number and details. She finally found the right records and then told me that someone would be with me within an hour.
True enough, an hour later a bright yellow RAC station wagon pulled up. I was already tired and wanting to have a shower and go to bed. So the guy pulled up, tried to start my car, but somehow mistakenly clicked on the wrong buttons to unlock my car and the alarm went off. After we disabled the alarm, he tried to start the car and voila! It started. I must have looked like a stupid fool and I told him then and there. So I moved my car to the car park and we discussed what had happened and he explained to me that it possibly could be that he just reset the immobiliser and it worked or it could have been the steering lock. He showed me how to undo the steering lock in case I ever did it again and I’m ever so glad he showed me. I’ve steering locked my car twice after that, but I managed to undo it so I guess that RAC guy’s trip wasn’t a waste.
So I drove home and then drove to the airport at 6.30am the next morning. The rest, well, you know the story. I picked up my family, dropped them home, went to uni to get some stuff done, went to the OT Registration Board and got myself registered, dropped my dad and brother home, went to work, went to pluck lemons after work, drove home, drove out for dinner, drove home and packed. I was so exhausted by the end of the day but it was worth it. I slept at close to 1 am and woke up at 8ish am the next day for the drive down South.
Some of you might know that we went down to Busselton and Dunsborough. Busselton was just a stop on the way to Dunsborough. Since we had already seen and walked the jetty 3 years ago, we decided to forgo it and just have lunch there before driving the 1.5 hours to Dunsborough.
Hover your mouse over the pictures for who is who. I can’t think of very good captions so you’ll have to make do with names of people
Next, we drove all the way down to Dunsborough. There we went shopping at Coles to get food and paid only $5.80 for a whole trolley full of groceries. Now, I’m sure you’re scratching your head as to why it is so cheap. I’ll put you out of your misery so you don’t drive all the way down to Dunsborough for cheap groceries haha. Its because I had won some gift vouchers from work so therefore it paid for all the food
So off we went to chalet after that. It was such a pretty place and plus, we were pretty beat after driving all the way. Well, rather I was rather beat after driving all the way from Perth to Dunsborough. So we took it nice and easy after that. We went to the beach which was right next to the chalet. The water was so clear!! It was such a beautiful place, we took some very interesting pictures there, evidenced by the pictures below.
After an hour or so, we went back to our chalet to cook our dinner. We had a lovely BBQ with fresh meat and veggies we got from Coles. It was such a yummy dinner. Since I think I’ve put more than enough photos for this post, I’ll include the BBQ photos in my next post
Next, we went to the beach for some fishing. To cut a long story short, we didn’t get any fish. But we did see a manta ray right next to the rocks! Unfortunately we didn’t get a proper picture of if, only got it on camera phone. Went back to the chalet to watch Spongebob Squarepants. I was in the mood for something mindless since I had been driving half the day and I really wanted to watch Spongebob since I had not watched the movie before. So then it was off to bed after a really long day.
Will post part 2 up when I get time. Now, I’ve got to de-clutter my room!
