How Do You Turn $10 to $100?
I bet that caught your attention quick didn’t it? Everybody loves free stuff, what more turning free money into more free money.
The good folks at Nuffnang in conjunction with Coles Group & Myer have decided to reward Nuffnangers with free money. Yes you heard it. Free money. A $10 gift voucher to be exact.
And the are giving its members a chance to turn the $10 gift voucher into $100. I bet you are wondering how do you get to participate in this generous contest. Simple.
Nuffnang relaunched its Australian site lately and can be accessed here. They are trying to expand its members and if you sign up now, you get a welcome pack filled with goodies like this. Easy huh? Bet you didn’t anticipate getting free stuff for joining and by putting ads on your blog, you even get paid. What is there to lose?
Anyway, back to the free money bit. So Nuffnang has issued the 2 challenges.
Challenge 1:
Be the Nuffie that spends $10 in the most creative, interesting or fun way. It is totally up to you what you choose to do with it, you just have to impress the Nuffnang team here with your shopping skills.
Challenge 2:
Most frugal Nuffie award. How far can you stretch $10 and what can you make it do?
I don’t think I am such a creative person, so I decided to try my hand at Challenge 2. I pride myself on buying cheap but good quality stuff. I’m the girl who bought a pair of Kenji jeans from Myer for $4. Don’t tell me you can top that, cause I’d be insanely jealous.
So off I went to Coles today since I was at work and figured I might as well buy stuff instead of making a midnight dash to IGA (which costs heaps more btw).
So here is the bill:
I paid $27.76 for a total of 17 items. Which works out to be $1.62 per item on average.
As you can see from this, I didn’t buy junk (The donuts were a gift). I bought quality products. Not to mention the fact that everything I bought was on sale. Talk about really stretching the dollar.
The Lawleys Breads ranged from about $4.50-$6.50 originally. Can’t believe they marked it down to only $2 each. That could literally last me the entire week!
OK, so the competition does state that I have to be the most frugal with $10. So let’s assume I bought only:
1. Lawley’s Bread - Olive Ciabatta ($2)
2. Hass avocado (75 cents each)
3. Fresh donuts (50 cents per box)
4. Strawberries ($1.78 per punnet)
5. You’ll Love Coles Baked Beans (85 cents per can)
5. Watermelon ($1.25/kg @ $1.54 for the slice)
6. Garlic ($7.98/kg @ $2.29 for the 4 heads of garlic)
Which totals $9.71 which means I have 29 cents to spare.
The best part about all this is the fact that I can probably get a week’s worth of meals out of the things I bought today.
Let’s have a look at what food I’d make with these.
1. Sliced bread with avocado spread. Makes a pretty good snack if I can say so myself.
2. Strawberry and watermelon fruit salad (nice and healthy).
3. Garlic with Coles baked beans.
4. Baked beans on the Olive Ciabatta bread.
5. Donuts with strawberries (just to appease the guilt :P)
6. Guacamole - made with avocado & garlic (that’s my take on it anyway).
That’s already 6 different types of things you can do with the food from the list. The possibilities are endless!! Oh man, I think I’ve watched too many Masterchef episodes and need to stop thinking about food. But how can I when Coles is just selling things for so cheap! I’d be curious to see if I could live off $10 for the week. I bet I’d be counting all my change!
So how frugal can you be?
