Down With The Flu

Well hello all. I’m typing now after being in bed for a week with a very bad case of the flu. Well that and hives and ear infection as well. If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t believe me.

It started with a very mild sore throat and cough on Saturday, which developed a bit more on Sunday. I didn’t think too much of it, since it was a very mild case and I had dosed up on echinacea and fish oil and multivitamins on Saturday and Sunday. They usually work well to curb anything that comes on. But it didn’t this time.

I woke up on Monday morning with a slight case of the chills and the cough and sore throat was a bit worse. I felt quite rotten and didn’t want to go into work but knew at 6 am, there wouldn’t be anybody awake that I could call to get them to see a client of mine at 7.15am. I sent out an e-mail and sorted out that I’d still go in for about 2 hours or so and go home after that.

Went home at about 11am and slept. And slept.

Woke up about 6pm and realised I have a bad case of hives. As in BAD case. My whole stomach area plus the back was raised with lumps. It spread so much that it just became one huge lump. So I decided to take a shower. Cold shower in an effort to try and cool down. It helps a bit, but it was itching like crazy and I just had to sleep it off and not wrap myself in a blanket, lest I over heat again.

So back to bed I went and woke up the next morning with a fever and a cold. Went to the doctor, who gave me 3 days off work and told me to take cold and flu tablets. Take them I did.

Then came Wednesday. Then came the day where I blew my nose and that was when thee whole build up of pressure in the nose happens during the cold. You know, the one where you blow your nose and then your ear feels blocked? That’s the one I had. That night came the slight fever again and the nausea. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I was about to puke. Nearly ran to the toilet a couple of times, but thankfully I didn’t need to puke.

Thursday was pretty much the same, though I had the nausea a few times throughout the day. By today, my butt was starting to hurt from sitting in bed nearly the whole day. I was developing bed sores out of all things as well. Gah.

So Friday came and then I trooped off to the doctor yet again as I needed another MC. Clearly I wasn’t going to go into work with my condition like that. That was when she discovered that I’ve got an ear infection on top of it. So clearly fluid my my lungs/sinus went into my ear. Don’t ask me how, I wouldn’t know the mechanics of it but yes fluid got into my ear and got infection. So she put me on antibiotics. Bloody hell, it cost $20.95 for 5 days worth of antibiotics. Talk about expensive drugs. The doctor also stopped the cold and flu tablets and asked me to take Sudafed.

Saturday and Sunday were a blur as I went out to the pharmacist to get some cough medication and went to Kongs to get Pei Pa Kao. Haha…I’ve stuck with Pei Pa Kao just cause it tasted nicer :P

Monday came and I still had the runny nose and cough. Same today, though the cold has started to taper off, the cough is pretty much still very present.

So I’m going to troop off to the doctor again tomorrow to ask for more antibiotics or at least something to get rid of this stupid cough. Its really draining coughing and trying to talk at the same time. Oh, and I still can’t hear properly out of my right ear. So I’m going to try and get down to that as well, cause I do intend to hear properly again. I rely too much on my hearing to have anything happen.

Anyway, I’m going to go to bed now. Have to get to work at 7.15am tomorrow and then nip back to the doctors. I’m so sick of being sick. I can’t wait to get back to full health and getting back into routine. At the moment I don’t quite have a routine as I’m either working or sleeping after that. Good night for now!
