Well, an update to the whole braces story. Went to my 2nd orthodontist visit and he gave me my x-rays, moulds and photos. Turns out that I’ve got an underbite but my upper teeth capped over my lower teeth, creating the illusion that I have a slight overbite.
The orthodontist said that to fix my underbite, I’d have to get braces, undergo surgery to correct my jaw bone, get another set of braces, plus retainers at the end. Once I heard all that, I think my jaw literally dropped.
I can’t imagine going through the surgery and not having the results guaranteed as the surgery comes with risks (won’t be able to talk for 4 weeks – this would be tough!) and not to mention teeth can move and it can all go south from there.
So I’ve decided not to go ahead with it. Thinking about it, its actually plastic surgery (changing my profile) and I don’t think I can subject myself to that much torture when things aren’t that bad. I have a lopsided jaw but things aren’t that bad to justify going under the knife for that. Though I do have to get surgery to remove my last wisdom tooth, which isn’t that major anyway.
Should have got braces when I was younger, would have made much more of a difference. Meh.
