The Braces Story

Well well, I broke my promise again about updating regularly. To make amends, here’s a little update from what has been happening lately.

I finally got in to meet my orthodontist for the first time today. It took 2 months to get an appointment with him, must be a really lucrative business to run! Anyway, I digress. This is probably a good guide for people who are interested in getting braces. I must remind my readers that I am in no way an expert in braces and this is merely what my experience has been thus far.

I know people will think I’m crazy in wanting braces, but I want it for a few reasons. Mainly being that I’ve got a unilateral cross bite, which is prominent on the right side and being a perfectionist, I didn’t like the fact that one side of my mouth has crowded teeth while the other is pretty much straight.

I had made this appointment 2 months ago and have another booked for a month away. So today’s visit involved providing my ortho with the OPG that I took, him taking my history of my teeth/dental records, taking a couple of impressions of my jaw and bite, taking photos of every angle imaginable.

First he looked at my teeth with the little mirrors that the dentist uses and looked around my mouth. He took a couple of measurements with a few menacing looking metal ruler things. From my meager knowledge of human jaw anatomy, I think he was taking the measurement between my top and bottom jaw and another measurement that I couldn’t quite make out.

He then took a piece of wax and I had to bite on it to to see how bad my bite is. After that, they took a few pictures of my smile, my side profile, my front profile and my teeth. I had to wear this really weird contraption that looks like a BBQ tong, only a bit more rounded. It was to keep my mouth open for pictures. I can only imagine I looked like an idiot with that contraption while the dentist took pictures of my smile and I can imagine that its going to be interesting cause that thing really stretched my lips. I can only imagine that when it comes to putting the brackets in as it’ll be quite painful after a long while.

Then, the dental assistant mixed up a composite for some moulds for the impressions of my upper and lower teeth. It feels quite gooey and its just slightly room temperature. The cool thing about this is that the powder is white, but mixed with some liquid, which makes it turn purple. Its then put into a weird machine which mixed it and poured into little bowl things which is then popped into my mouth and I had to bite into it to make impressions of my teeth. The really cool thing is that the stuff turns white once its set. And the most annoying part of it was the fact that the thing stuck to my teeth so it was a bit of tug of war to remove it from my jaw both times. Haha

That was the end of the consultation. Well, for this time anyway. I got given a referral to get a lateral cephalometry thing, which is like an X-Ray of the whole face to check for my jaws in relation to my face etc. Who knew there were so many parts to this thing! They definitely are very thorough. After that my orthodontist explained that my next appointment would involve him coming up with a treatment plan and outlining the best treatment option before proceeding. He told me with the preliminary consult, he couldn’t see any easy treatment for me. He explained that my right side of my lower jaw is a bit bigger than my left, which could have stemmed from my left side only growing from the caudal side or something along those lines. I wasn’t paying much attention after he said he couldn’t see an easy way to treat. I remember that he was saying that my upper jaw was underdeveloped and my teeth were actually quite far behind and my upper lip is a bit flat. From my basic anatomy of the human body, I know that the lower jaw is easier to fix and an over bite with space in the jaw is easier to fix than a slight overbite with the upper jaw being underdeveloped.

After that trip to the orthodontist, I made a trip to the Radiological Clinic to get my x-ray thing done. It was interesting cause it took less than 2 minutes and I was out of there. The waiting in the waiting room took the longest, I think I was there for a good 15-20 minutes just waiting for the girl to come back from lunch to snap the picture.

After that, its just a month’s wait for my next appointment with my orthodontist where he’ll write out and go through a treatment plan with me. I must say, he is a very nice and friendly guy, unlike all my dentists in Malaysia. I guess that’s why they are worth the fees they are charging. Expensive, but I know that I’ll get my money’s worth with the service.

I guess since this will be an ongoing thing, I’ll be updating about my trips to the orthodontist and we’ll have to see how things go from there. Its going to be an interesting journey!

Long Awaited Update

I must admit, I hadn’t realised its been 6 months since I’ve last updated my blog. I had actually gotten quite comfortable not updating, as I had very little time at the end of the day after work and dinner and everything else. I’ve gotten into the routine of just reading other people’s blogs and it felt pretty weird at first not blogging, but it was a good break. Quite frankly, I’ve lost a lot of motivation to turn on my computer at the end of the day and blog and have been chilling out in front of the TV each night.

I haven’t been reading or writing much lately and somehow I find that I’ve just lost touch with my creative side. Well, I’m starting to get into a routine again and am hoping to update more regularly. With pictures too :)

So won’t be too long till another post! Oh and another layout change. I’ve gotten quite sick of seeing that header. Haha

Greetings From Malaysia!

Hello everyone!

Greetings from the land of good food and good shopping but scary driving!

I arrived safe and sound in Malaysia on Friday at 11.55am (20 mins earlier than scheduled even though we lifted of 15 mins later than scheduled). I must say, I am quite impressed with Air Asia’s flight. Its the first time I’ve sat in an Air Asia plane all the way from Perth to KL and it was pretty pleasant. Apart from the little kid sitting next to me who was elbowing me most of the way and the people that kept hitting my head while they walked past me. Small price to pay for such a cheap flight. The food that was served was pretty decent too. I opted for the nasi lemak on board, prepurchased so that I had 20% off the price and I must tell you its probably the best airplane food I’ve ever tasted in my life. And that is saying a lot since I’ve always flown MAS and this is my first time on board a budget airline.

I’ve spent nearly a week here already and time seems to have flown by so quick. Its really scary. I’ve eaten more than my share of food, and shopped (though I’d consider that very very conservative shopping.. Its strange even though things are dirt cheap here). I’ve been driven around by my dad (thanks dad! :)) and I must say, I don’t think I can ever drive here again. Roads are so congested and road rules practically don’t exist. People somehow follow an unwritten set of rules and somehow emerge fine, not counting that when accidents happen its usually fatal or really major crash.

I’ve got lots of things to blog about when I get back to Perth, but for now its time to spend the last 2 days with my family. I’ve got lots of TV to catch up on and lots more food to eat. So long for now, I’ll be back to Perth in 3 days!

Short Update

Hello everybody! Yes, I do know I’ve been MIA for so long, nobody misses me anymore :(

Yes, I have moved and survived the move. I’m in the midst of unpacking, yes I know I own a lot of junk and have been systematically getting rid of things so there is a big improvement. I’m going to be spending the rest of the month organising things and then packing to go back to Malaysia.

I’ve just put a bottle of blonde hair dye into my hair tonight. I know it won’t turn out blonde but I was aiming for light brown so we’ll see how it goes in sunlight tomorrow. I’m a bit zonked cause I’ve had a long day and driving back and forth to Rockingham (1 hour+ each way cause of the rain and traffic) and we went back there again just now for more clients. So if you hear me act like a bogan or talk like a bogan, you’ll know why.

Well, the update for today is that I managed to get soaking wet going to Rockingham, which is definitely my least favourite place in the world at the moment. I get out of the car and it decides to bucket down and there were huge puddles of water (I’m not joking, I’m talking like about 1 inch deep puddles) and I managed to get soaked. My pants were dripping wet from knees to foot, jacket was drenched and I was wearing a thin shirt. Not the best idea in that kind of weather. The weather is bloody weird, its supposed to be end of spring and it just buckets down! And it was freezing too. Walking around in wet clothes is probably the worst feeling. I guess I’ll definitely be packing lots of extra clothing in my car from now on.

Anyways, today is a pretty good day apart from that. I guess I found out things about myself that I have forgotten, like how I used to be a control freak and have finally given in to the fact that I can’t control every aspect of my life and to take things as they come along. I guess I’m finally coming to grips that I can’t control everything and things will just have to be the way it is and that I shouldn’t obsessing over my future and the way things in life work. Live and let live.

Me thinks I need a holiday. 16 days and I’m off!! Now, to find someone who is willing to drop me to the airport. Please?? Pretty pretty please? :)

Lazy Blogger

I admit, I’ve been thoroughly lazy lately. Ever since I fell sick, everything too a back burner and the most important thing was for me to get well again. While I was on the mend I was back at work but still taking things a bit easy as I was still coughing like crazy.

So here’s the 411 on my situation (always wanted to say that, teehee :)):
I was diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis on 090909 by another doctor. He also said that my nose was caused by the Sudafed the other doctor prescribed. Also, he put me on 2 more course of antibiotics and added another antibiotic to my regime. He told me the other doctor shouldn’t have prescribed me with the Symbicort puffer as it contains steroid but should have put me on Ventolin instead as I was wheezing quite badly. I have residual wheezing but have stopped the inhaler as steroids scare the crap out of me. Which reminds me, the antibiotics messed up my digestive system (normal side effect) so as a result I have 2 ulcers in my mouth and my eating habits are somewhat varied.

Its been a month to the day since I got sick and I have been so out of whack that I have not gone back to my workaholic habits. It feels so strange to sit and read a book for hours at night just so I don’t have to strain myself thinking and worrying about things.

I’ve picked up the pace today: cleaned my room and sorted out some documents that had to be filed and put away, cleared my clothes as it was in a pile on the floor, done some notes for work and eaten lunch.

I’ve gotta modify my skirt for my GM at work since its a 50s themed night. Yes, my company is funky like that :) So I’ve bought a skirt for $9.25 at my local Good Sammy’s, some black cloth for the poodle design and a dish cloth like thing for the scarf. For obvious reasons I won’t post pictures of my outfit up just yet as the meeting is on Thursday. Wanna get the full effect of the outfit ;)

Well I guess that’s all I have for the time being as I’m arming myself with some safety pins and needles to fix the skirt. Its a size 18 but I have to modify it to fit me (size 10/12). So I sure hope I don’t poke an eye out while doing this :)

Down With The Flu

Well hello all. I’m typing now after being in bed for a week with a very bad case of the flu. Well that and hives and ear infection as well. If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t believe me.

It started with a very mild sore throat and cough on Saturday, which developed a bit more on Sunday. I didn’t think too much of it, since it was a very mild case and I had dosed up on echinacea and fish oil and multivitamins on Saturday and Sunday. They usually work well to curb anything that comes on. But it didn’t this time.

I woke up on Monday morning with a slight case of the chills and the cough and sore throat was a bit worse. I felt quite rotten and didn’t want to go into work but knew at 6 am, there wouldn’t be anybody awake that I could call to get them to see a client of mine at 7.15am. I sent out an e-mail and sorted out that I’d still go in for about 2 hours or so and go home after that.

Went home at about 11am and slept. And slept.

Woke up about 6pm and realised I have a bad case of hives. As in BAD case. My whole stomach area plus the back was raised with lumps. It spread so much that it just became one huge lump. So I decided to take a shower. Cold shower in an effort to try and cool down. It helps a bit, but it was itching like crazy and I just had to sleep it off and not wrap myself in a blanket, lest I over heat again.

So back to bed I went and woke up the next morning with a fever and a cold. Went to the doctor, who gave me 3 days off work and told me to take cold and flu tablets. Take them I did.

Then came Wednesday. Then came the day where I blew my nose and that was when thee whole build up of pressure in the nose happens during the cold. You know, the one where you blow your nose and then your ear feels blocked? That’s the one I had. That night came the slight fever again and the nausea. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I was about to puke. Nearly ran to the toilet a couple of times, but thankfully I didn’t need to puke.

Thursday was pretty much the same, though I had the nausea a few times throughout the day. By today, my butt was starting to hurt from sitting in bed nearly the whole day. I was developing bed sores out of all things as well. Gah.

So Friday came and then I trooped off to the doctor yet again as I needed another MC. Clearly I wasn’t going to go into work with my condition like that. That was when she discovered that I’ve got an ear infection on top of it. So clearly fluid my my lungs/sinus went into my ear. Don’t ask me how, I wouldn’t know the mechanics of it but yes fluid got into my ear and got infection. So she put me on antibiotics. Bloody hell, it cost $20.95 for 5 days worth of antibiotics. Talk about expensive drugs. The doctor also stopped the cold and flu tablets and asked me to take Sudafed.

Saturday and Sunday were a blur as I went out to the pharmacist to get some cough medication and went to Kongs to get Pei Pa Kao. Haha…I’ve stuck with Pei Pa Kao just cause it tasted nicer :P

Monday came and I still had the runny nose and cough. Same today, though the cold has started to taper off, the cough is pretty much still very present.

So I’m going to troop off to the doctor again tomorrow to ask for more antibiotics or at least something to get rid of this stupid cough. Its really draining coughing and trying to talk at the same time. Oh, and I still can’t hear properly out of my right ear. So I’m going to try and get down to that as well, cause I do intend to hear properly again. I rely too much on my hearing to have anything happen.

Anyway, I’m going to go to bed now. Have to get to work at 7.15am tomorrow and then nip back to the doctors. I’m so sick of being sick. I can’t wait to get back to full health and getting back into routine. At the moment I don’t quite have a routine as I’m either working or sleeping after that. Good night for now!

Blog Posts to Come

Just making a note here so that I actually do write these posts, cause I have found stuff to blog about (finally!) but don’t quite have the time as of yet.

1. Camry vs Aurion
I’ve driven both cars and going to write a post comparing the driveability of both cars.

2. Vlog/Entry for Nuffnang Australia
This one is quite urgent, they’re running a contest now and I’m going to try my luck at this comp. Actually its 2 posts. One will be a vlog and the other will be just an entry :)

Well, so far these are the next posts coming. I’ve been pretty bogged down with everything lately, I literally work, come home, have dinner, shower, read a book to sleep and then sleep. Repeat all week. I’ve literally lost all my social contact with people apart form cell group and church on the weekends. So I’m not exactly the most social person right now. In fact, I think I’ve kind of grown to like being anti-social. I’m a bit cynical just cause being alone helps sometimes. Talking to clients and interacting with colleagues all day sometimes just leaves me so drained that I just don’t want to talk to anyone. I’ve just used up my social quota for the day.

Its has been a pretty emotional and trying week, but I’m glad I pulled through it all. I’m not exactly feeling my best and haven’t wanted to post in a while. I do keep private entries so I do get my thoughts out sometimes, cause it ain’t fun to have the whole wide world to be reading your inner most thoughts. So if sometimes it seems like I haven’t posted anything here, it just means that I’m either too busy or have been writing private entries.

Well, nearly time to sleep for the day. I’m catching up on sleep during the weekends so there really isn’t much time at all to do much. So nights!

Waiting For The Camera

Well, since I’ve got my camera and I’m awaiting its arrival in another week or so, I’ve decided to stop blogging till then. I know I’ve got so many backdated posts but until I get everything settled and back into a routine, I don’t think I can spare time to blog.

Check out my Twitter in the side bar, I’ll be updating that multiple times a day instead of blogging in the main page for about a week :)

45 Minutes

How long does it take for a girl to shower?

45 minutes.

This includes washing and shampooing hair, soaping entire body, scrubbing feet, moisturising face and body, and blow drying hair.

How long do you take?

That random fact aside, I spent the holiday (its Foundation Day in Perth) catching up on sleep, getting laundry done and playing with the kids. I think I need more holidays like this :)

Four Day Weekend

Since it is my Friday off tomorrow and due to Foundation Day on Monday, I’ve ended up with a 4 day weekend again. Not that I’m complaining at all. Who can complain when they get a 4 day weekend, 4 day work week, followed by another 4 day work week.

Ahhh….This is the life.

Not that I don’t have much planned up my sleeve for the weekend. I’ve got lunch with the girls (and guy) tomorrow, shopping with the other girls and then cell group at night with everyone else. Then I’ve got to do my laundry tomorrow and Saturday, clean my room as part of my weekly upkeep schedule, and go to the markets (if nobody has gone). Then on Sunday morning, I’ve gotta pick my uncle and send my aunty, my uncle and my cousin to the airport. Its also Sam’s birthday on Sunday, but I’ll be so zonked out with the driving to the airport so early in the morning once again that I’ll be so tempted to sleep in.

In between all that I’ll be catching up on my beauty sleep (I’ve worked from 7am to 6pm today and I did an airport run last night with the baby screaming in the back seat. I still hear the echoes) and reading up on my psychology, psychiatry and disability readings. I’m not sure what the OT Board is doing about the professional development thing, but I’m keeping abreast with the issues and reading the journals that we get at the office. Can’t afford to fall behind with everything, cause I’d feel extremely unwise should I do that.

Anyways, since I know its boring to read a post with just words in it, here you go. Picture of me attempting to nerd. The glasses definitely help with the nerdy look :)

Nerdy
I know. This is an unedited picture and I am acutely aware of having freckles and pimples. I think I should do a makeup post soon.

Till tomorrow’s post!
