Raindrops Falling On My Head

Quite literally it has been a rather wet and windy week. Yesterday I went to uni, relying on the weather forecast of cloudy, occasional sunshine, sans umbrella. The result? Look below for how it turned out.

Mangled Hair

Mangled Hair 2

Mangled Hair 3

I’m not a happy camper.

Passing Time

The time is now 12.43am and I have done 2 and a half pages of my 4 pages essay which is due in today during the seminar. I doubt I’ll get more than 5 and a half hours of sleep and therefore I’m exhausted since I had to go to uni yesterday, which was ultimately so boring and a waste of time.

And since I’m cranky from not being able to sleep and having to write about culture, I messed around with my webcam. I was being stupid, so excuse the weird poses that come out. I’m not usually like this, I’m just procrastinating right now and thoroughly wanting a good night’s sleep.

Sleepy
Nearly falling asleep

Studying
Was trying to read the instruction page when I realised my glasses were slipping off and I thought it’d be interesting to see what I look like. Obviously its not good, so that’s the last of me trying to wear glasses like a grandmother

Weird
OK, so I admit I was just trying to find the weirdest pose I could come up with. And no, I didn’t really dig my nose.

Today’s session at uni was just one where the people on prac have to go and talk to their tutorial groups about their experiences. Took 2 hours to get thru all 6 people who went on prac in my tute group. The fieldwork debrief today wasn’t too bad, nobody failed prac (YAY!) but it wasn’t such a good use of time in my opinion. Having not been on prac and will not go till July, every 7 weeks that come around and tutes run is going to be a snore fest for me. We basically get our info from talking to each other so basically we’re doing this formally. Sigh.

Well, I’m off to finish that last page or so of my essay. Here’s to me actually having SOME sleep tonight/today.

Things In My Handbag

In the spirit of procrastinating, I’ve decided to create a picture post just cause. Don’t need a reason right? :P

So, I tipped out the contents of my handbag and voila! This is what I’ve discovered that I’ve been carrying around on my poor shoulders and can’t live without:

The Battered Phone
Handphone. Good ol mobile which connects me with the world and my friends :) Once I forgot to bring my mobile or when my mobile died while I was out, it felt so horrible. All I wanted to do for the day was to go home and recharge the drained batteries or to go home and get my phone and check my messages and phone calls.

Wallet and Cards
Wallet. I think I wouldn’t function without this one. No money, no cards, no SmartRider, wouldn’t get far now would I?

Old
iPod. The thing that pretty much keeps me sane during my long bus rides home. I think a few times where my iPod batteries were drained, the bus ride seemed sooooooooooo long it was almost cruel. I can only look at my watch ever so often and realise that only 1 minute had passed since I saw it.

My babies
Sunnies. Since I lost the Sportsgirl ones and Nic squished the Dotti ones, I bought myself some Baby Doll sunnies :)

Eye drops. I wear contacts so really its vital that I carry this around or else you would see me randomly blinking on the street when my eyes are dry and guys might think I’m trying to pick them up. Lip balms and lip glosses. I’m a bit on the vain side, enough said. Tissue paper. For all the wiping of mouths when you have bits and pieces stuck on my mouth or sticky hands. Or more like carry it around for Ange to use…haha. Chewing gum. For all those after coffee mornings for that minty fresh breath

So, enough of peeking in my handbag. A girl’s gotta have other things in her bag that has got to be kept private :P

Of Names and Things

So the procrastination bug strikes again, I’ve got an essay about how culture has shaped my attitudes towards health and to explore and describe how gaining a broader understanding of health beyond my own cultural context might enhance my future practice of occupational therapy. Tell me that just looks like a bunch of big and sophisticated looking words. Its a 4 pages essay with 1 page of references and bibliography which is due in on Tuesday, 11th March. A week from now. For one trying to define culture, the essay can go on for miles if I just sit and compile down all the definitions of culture and how it influences me. But fortunately for me, I’ve got a 4 page limit and free reign over the content I present in the assignment. To take my mind of that pesky headache which has been bugging me on and off for 3 days now and to try and close one eye to my assignment, here I am. Blogging.

So the other day I was juts sitting at the bus port, waiting for my bus to get to work and I just let my mind wander off while listening to the tunes of The Way I Are by Timbaland. Then as I begin to drift into lala land, I began thinking about names. About how most people in Australia always shorten names such as Natalie to Nat, Timothy to Tim and such. I’ve never been a fan of people shortening other people’s names without their permission. Call me old fashioned or a nannna but it has been instilled in me by my elders never to simply go changing people’s names. Its in the Asian culture that we always address our elders by Aunty or Uncle so and so and not by their first names. So when I came here 4 long years ago and everyone started calling our teachers by their first name, you could imagine my horrified face. It’s so laid back here that the teachers insist you call them that. I supposed I’ve adjusted to that but when it comes to greeting my Asian elders or someone’s parents, its always Aunty or Uncle so and so or Mr or Mrs so and so. It’s just proper manners to me.

Back to the shortening of names. I’ve grown up being called by my full first name, Kristine. It is only recently that I have actually allowed people that I know well or am comfortable with to call me Kris or Krissy. It still annoys the crap out of me that some people call me Kris the minute I introduce myself as Kristine. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind people calling me Kris but somehow when a person I don’t know very well calls me Kris it just somehow gets to me that they know me very well and they are quite chummy with me to be able to call me whatever they want. A person’s name is what they are identified by, and to me they’re cutting out my identity for some reason. My given name is Kristine and it will always stay that way, so Kris is just for friends and family. Let’s leave it that way. I don’t know why I have so much of an issue with that but hey, that’s my opinion.

Ranting aside, nothing new has been happening lately apart from work, doing the project proposal, assignment, bible studying and packing up. And since I don’t really want to write that essay, here’s a meme I just felt like doing since Suet Li did it recently and it looks like one of the more exciting ones :)

It’s Over

That dreaded Mental Health paper is over. Over and done with. Out of the way before going on to study for the neuro viva.

I’ll be really glad and relieved once it’s finished on Wednesday and we’re free to enjoy the summer for at least 4 months.

Another 40 hours to go before we’re freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! Finished with 3rd year and doing the pracs next year.

Haven’t done a list in so long so here’s the mandatory “Things to do during the holiday list”:
1. Clear out closet, get rid of clothes that make me look fat and ugly.
2. Go shopping to get new clothes to replace above mentioned clothes.
3. Work to pay for above mentioned clothes.
4. Find extra jobs to work at.
5. Start off with self-directed prac.
6. Walk the dog every day or every other day.
7. Have an extreme makeover so that when I see everyone for the summer I’m not a fat slob but looking trimmer and fitter. No, no plastic surgery involved only natural means thankyouverymuch.
8. Chillax for a while and catch up with friends who are still in Perth.
9. Give the house a spring clean.
10. Relax with the babes and attend the joint 21st.
11. Buy presents and dress for the above mentioned party.
12. Start planning for my 22nd birthday.

That’s all I’ve got for the time being. I just need to get over the half an hour of neuro viva and I’ve completed 3rd year! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Walk and Dinner

OKlah, I admit I’m a little on the fat side…..So I went for a walk today sort of as a endorphine boost since I was did 4 iLectures today, which meant I was practically glued to the computer for roughly 8 hours today. I tell you these lectures are a torture. Real pain in the ass to go and watch them, but 12 iLecures later, 24 hours of pain later, half a file of notes later, I triumphed against it. Not that I sat for my exam yet, but I finished studying a major part of the unit, just have to go thru the Mental Health Act and then thru my tute notes and readings and be done with this unit once and for all.

Jolene came back from Melbourne for the weekend and we had massive plateful of sheep’s cheese and fruits and I had half a glass of red wine. I think I feel much better than I did when I was watching the iLectures from 10am till 6pm today. Now I’ve gotta read a little bit and as a reward (Hah!) I’m going to read my neuro case studies. Not that its much of a reward or anything but I still have to watch those DVDs of the neurophysical and the hemiparesis of the shoulder etc.

The viva exam questions are definitely much easier than last year’s rehab once. Don’t think passing that one is much of a problem, already passed the unit, just have to pass this to technically pass the unit.

Sporadic Update #3

It’s Wednesday and I’ve done 5 2 hour lectures, and working on my 6th one now. It’s painful listening to them since I know that I do not want to go into this field but just have to pass this exam to get thru this hurdle.

Update on my self-directed prac: I’ve been approved to contact the coordinator at Royal Perth Hospital and now am waiting on Nigel to reply to my partner regarding the project we’ll be doing together. I’m more excited about that than I am about finishing the exams. I suppose its finally something that I have some control over and I can decide what I’m going to research on and how things are going to be done.

Been subscribing to the Dictionary.com for the word of the day thing as well, since I think my vocabulary needs a bit of a boost. The word of the day for yesterday was perfervid. Your duty is to go look it up….Hahahah….I am mean. Now I’m sure you’re itching to go find out what it means, right?

Anyhoo….Another thing happening is that Lin gave me the Justin Timberlake FutureSex/Love Show program filled with pictures of Justin and the set list in them. Admittedly I’m short of time, so I only managed to take one picture of it so far but trust me there will be many more from where that came from :P

So enjoy this and hopefully this will knock me back into study mode for today! I’m bringing nerdy back!

JT

Sporadic Update #2

*sniff sniff*

I smell instant noodles and I’m hungry…..Man….I just ate like a tuna sandwich with cheese and an apple after that and I’m still hungry >.<

*Chants to self*

Cannot eat, cannot eat, cannot eat

*Finishes chant*

Its like 30 degrees today and its seriously scary. Last night it was cold enough to warrant the thick comforter, but when I woke up it was hot enough to kick everything off. Its going to be 36 degrees tomorrow and 37 degrees on Monday. I’m definitely hiding in doors as much as possible on Monday cause I’ve got the voc rehab exam and then Linny poo is giving me the JT souvenir she bought for me yesterday at the concert! I love that girl to death man.

However much I admit to loving Justin Timberlake (our baby, Cheryl :P), I did not go to the concert last night and I’m not going tonight. I know, I know. I am the BIGGEST fan, everyone else only got into him cause he was coming to Perth but I had been a fan since I was 13, so beat that! Hah!

Anyway, my point being that since this semester’s exams are the last of my life, I would rather miss out on watching the concerts and put in my efforts into the papers and then a few years down the track I’m going to buy me a plane ticket and a concert ticket and go and watch him in concert once. It is painful to see lots of people go and watch his concert but no matter, I shall one day watch one of his concerts.

To my surprise, I’ve actually finished studying for the exam on Monday. I feel rather stoked, seeing that I stayed at the Med Library till 11pm last night to study. Was there with Celena at first but then she had to go off so I went for dinner with Cheryl, JY, Ben and Stan. Ended up at Broadway for dinner and then Ti Amo’s for very potent coffee and cake. I tell you I literally only slept for like 5 hours and then woke up to do my self-directed project. At 5.30am….

I wonder why my sanity has gone to.

To cut a long story short, I’m not feeling stressed, just peckish with food and wanting this exam period to be over so I can enjoy myself at the beach and have dinner with the babes and go look for the summer jobs! Oh, not to mention the project overview, proposals, meetings, interviews etc.

And the best part for this sem: I AM NOT WORKING FOR 2 WEEKS! I haven’t had a day off in a while and I’m relishing the fact that I’m in front of the comp, with so much done for studying and feeling rather smug :P

Oh and for people from Malaysia reading, we are 1 hour ahead! So your 9am is our 10am now!

Goodbye till I decide to come back with another sporadic update.

Sporadic Update #1

Things accomplished thus far, Wednesday, 7th November 2007, 1.54pm:

1. Finished the marathon iLecture watching off all but 3 voc rehab iLectures.
2. Reviewed the Worker’s Compensation Legislation partially. I feel like a lawyer already with all the terminology and having to know court ettiquette.

I feel slightly better after watching nearly 14 hours worth of lectures and made a ton of notes and done some readings. I think I’m going to get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome soon :(
